Dear Paul, To answer your question. No. The L1B visa, initially for 3 years extendible to a maximum of five years (two more years). On completing the maximum allowable period in L1B status, you have to go outside the U.S. or must be employed outside the United States for a minimum of one year before a new application is made for L1B visa again. In addition you should also note that the times spent in L1B visa status are added if you change status to H-1B meaning if you deciding to change from L1B to H-1B you will not be able to obtain an extension because the times spent in L visa is added or counted toward the total.
