The ensuing loss is covered (Water Damage), however the
pipes themselve are probably not covered.

However the law does allow the insurance to drop the
coverage if there are excessive claims that are not weather
    related.

Some insurance co's check for prior claims with previous
carriers, but not all. If you do make a claim and you are
dropped, then find another carrier and be honest about your
claim history, you may pay a higher rate with the previous
claims, but it is better than being denied and or dropped in
the future for lieing on your application.

If there is minimal damage to your property, then don't make
    the claim.
