    Post: Welfare denying coverage

    Posted by Jamie on 7/16/06

I'm not sure if this is the right chatboard, but here my
situation. This is in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. In
the past 25 months I have been trying to get Welfare so I
could get my teeth fixed. I do not have the money to pay for
it. I have tried to get Welfare several times since June
2004 when my teeth were in decent condition. Since then my
teeth have gotten severely worse. A dentist in Jan 2006 had
told me that it would cost between $15,000 - $20,000 to fix
them, and if I didn't fix them soon, that I could get blood
poisoning. Every time that I have applied, I have been told
that I make to much, that the limits are no more than
$250.00 Gross per month, and you have to work at least 100
hours a month. If this were true, then no one would be able
to qualify. Min wage is $5.15, and a waitress min wage is
$2.83. They said that I would be able to qualify if i were
to lose my job. After that discussion, I was laid off (Jan.
30th 2006), so I called and spoke with 2 different people
that each told me that I had to be working at least 100
hours per month. I was very frustrated, and wrote to my
senator, and they then informed me that the Welfare office
has been lying to me, that you could not exceed $870.00
Gross per month !!! So, now I need almost $20,000 worth of
work because I could not afford it, and have lost 30 lbs
because I have trouble chewing. Would I be able to sue? Is
there anything that I can do to somehow make them pay for
the damage to my teeth since they have lied to me for the
past 25 months? Any other information of comments would be
    greatly appreciated.
