I have different advice; I'm finishing off a Ph.D. in molecular
biology and begining training as a patent agent in Houston.
The kind of information you will dealing with on a daily basis
in working on biotech/pharma patents is exceptionally advanced,
and at the level only a Ph.D. scientist can interpret. Many
patent agents/technical advisors in fields such as computer
engineering, chemistry and electrical engineering can get away
with with a lower degree, but, in the biotechnology arena, most
firms preferentially hire Ph.D.s. From what I've been told,
salaries are commensurate with level of education. Good luck!
