In my opinion, the paralegal would be better. In our firm, the
legal secretary handles all the general typing (letters, memos,
etc.) She also handles all the incoming phone calls, plus deals
with all the walk-in clients. She keeps the daily docket, as
well. She does the filing, too. The paralegal does all the legal
documentation, from drafting general pleadings, discovery,
communicating with members of the bar, as well as court
personnel. The paralegal works side by side with the legal
secretary in our firm - very important so that each can be kept
up to date with all the lastest developments in all aspects of
the law office. The paralegal does some general legal research
as well, and gets to work without all the interruptions, plus she
gets very well compensated. The legal secretary is just as
important. Either way, you go, just do the best job you can. It
all depends on your employer. Our secretary is very well
compensated, as well. I guess it all depends on how much
responsibility you want to assume, and how much initiative you
    have.
