    Post: BA and no certificate

    Posted by Candice , chyndari@yahoo.com, on 8/21/02

Hello. I currently reside in Richmond, VA. I have a BA in
Political Science and am comtemplating the paralegal field.
Do I really need that certificate? Can't I just get some
paralegal books from a publisher and do some self-studying?
The paralegal course here is ABA-approved and will run
about 2 years. The courses add up to a 2-year associate's
degree. The counselor said it shouldn't take me as long,
since I already have my BA. I am just tight on money. Are
there really any law firms or companies that will train me,
or do most want people who can hit the ground running? I
should mention that I have written for a news paper, held a
P/C insurance license and have taught in the public school
system. Any marektable skills seen here? I'm thanking all
    in advance for the advice.
