INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY COUNSEL - PATENTS

Job Location: Stamford, CT, for a major consumer products corporation's Stamford, CT office.

Job Purpose

As a member of the company's Group Intellectual Property department, to assist in the management of the company's intellectual property portfolio with focus on the company' s patents, patent prosecution and litigation, infringement and validity studies, licensing, proprietary know-how and trade secrets for the company's business units in the Americas and elsewhere.

Job Responsibilities

* Manage company's patent portfolio, with particular emphasis on patent prosecution and litigation, infringement and validity studies, and licensing.

* Work with company's research and development personnel to determine appropriate methods of intellectual property protection.

* Analyze patent related matters and provide legal opinions on infringement, validity, design-arounds and potential liability.

* Assist in the development of strategies for the protection, maintenance and better exploitation of intellectual property within the businesses.

* Proactively provide advice and education to the company and its business units on all aspects of intellectual property, with a particular emphasis on patent law.

* Proactively Provide counselling to maintain and protect company's
proprietary know-how and trade secrets.

Job Requirements

* Experienced intellectual property lawyer with 5 to 7 years of intensive legal experience practicing patent law in New Jersey and/or New York.
* Excellent academic background, current bar membership in good standing and registered to practice before the USPTO.
* Chemical background preferred. Significant experience in the confectionery and beverage industry is highly desirable.
* Excellent team player, with superior skills in inter-personal, verbal and written communication, negotiating, managing personnel, and solving problems.
· Exercise sound commercial and legal judgment, ability to handle multiple matters and work well under pressure.
