Post: What should I do if.....

    Posted by Andrea on 5/18/03

I find myself tricked to a "salary raise" after a promotion.

I started out as a receptionist of my firm. I had Paralegal
Certificate at the time, but due to lack of experience I
    agreed to the receptionist position.

Three months later, I applied for an IP Paralegal position
    and was offered the job.

I have a big issue now. When I tried to discuss my "new"
compensation, I was informed it was a lateral move since
the IP department had a lots of over time work, and that I
    could take advantage of.

I agreed to this form of "raise" and started spending a lot
of my weekends making at the office to makle my overtime
money. It irritated my boss when she realized just how much
OT I was making. She immediately started making negative
comments about my over time. At this point, I have been
ordered not to make ANY overtime at all!(Due to slow
    business).

What steps do you guys think I should take? I feel tricked,
    and unfairly taken advantage of.

I am back to making my initial receptionist salary but as a
one year plus experienced IP Paralegal. Is this legally
right? If I were to "complain" about this, how should I
    best handle the situation?
