Hey Siobhan, I too am 15 and really want to get emancipated.
I don't have a job yet, because I am really not allowed. Not
many people will hire a 15 year old anyway. I will be 16 in
February but I don't think I can wait that long. I have been
in a mental institution for cutting myself, and am now seeing
a pschiatrist and psychotherapist, but I believe the only
thing that really would help me would be to get out of my
house. My mom is drunk most of the time and is always
screaming at me. Sometimes just for the hell of it. I come
home and sit in my room and do my homework, only leaving to
eat, use the bathroom, and maybe watch t.v., and I still find
her yelling at me for reasons I don't even think she knows.
My dad died when I was 5 and my mom remarried when I was about
7. My step dad never really liked me very much, and now I'm
feeling like an outsider in my own home. I have two little
sisters: 13 and 6 and my parents love them to death, but I
feel like I'm not even wanted anymore. Being in the
institution was probably the happiest time of my life that I
can remember other than when I was very young, so I would love
to get out of my house and finally be happy and free of the
mental abuse. I get good grades, A's and B's, and am tired of
being told I am stupid and senseless and will never amount to
anything. If anyone has any information on how I can get
emancipated, I live in Coal City, Illinois-by Joliet, please
email me and tell me how you did it or give me any information
that could help. Please, I can't wait any longer, I am
considering running away, but know that will never work and I
want things to be legal and safe. I believe I am very mature
for my age and could live on my own very well. I plan to
finish High School and go to college and have a good career.
