I have BEE and MSEE. Started law school at age 40. Law firms are ultra-conservative, so there is lots of age discrimination towards older newbies. Firms like to hire new grads between 25-30 years old. "Old folks" do not fit their mold. Also, legal careers are not like engineering careers. Law is extremely more competetive. In order to do well ($100K+ at big firm)in the legal field you need to graduate in the top 10% of your class from a Tier 1 school (see US News & World Report). Otherwise, you will earn more money in engineering working a standard 40 hour week. This type of ranking and pecking order may not be fair, but believe me that is the way it works. Contrast this to engineering where no one cares about your school or class ranking. I think the reason for this elitism in the legal profession is because there are just way too many lawyers. This is my opinion on the matter and something for you to think about and research before commiting to an expensive legal education.
