Post: Plan Copywrights/ Legal Changes

My question is this. You take a plan for an R/C airplane you bought or got for free. Build the airplane, fly it and then decide you can do it better. You take ideas from the original plan, make quite a few changes (6 to 10) and then you sell you plane. It looks similer, but not identical and there are very visable changes. Is this in violation of the law? What is the "rule" as far as how much has to be changed before the original plan is considerd a new plan? Thanks Glenn
