    It's a different culture. IP law firms are full of geeks who
    happen to have law degrees. Many of them wouldn't feel
    comfortable about the idea of working for a general practice
    firm. There again, in some of the latter the IP department may
    feel somewhat detached from the rest of the firm, in many
    cases because they are all there as the result of a merger.
    It's very trendy for general practice firms to suddenly
    acquire a ready-formed IP department. In the past, none of the
    firms that dominated IP were general practice, but it's
    gradually changing.
