In the US you have to register as an attorney in one of the 50
states or the District of Columbia in order to be a patent
attorney. The educational requirements very widely by state.
For example in Virginia it is possible transcript reviewed by
a VA law school who will certify that it is equivalent to a US
JD or LLB. Given that it is the dean of the law school doing
the review, I suspect it's highly likely that he will decide
you need more course work.
However in North Carolina, there is essentially no way to
qualify to take the bar without JD from an ABA approved law
school.
In some states you if you get an LLM from an approved school,
you can take the bar exam. But in others only a JD or LLB
will work.
Once you have gotten admitted to one state and practice for
five years, many of the other states in the US will allow you
to get a license without taking the bar exam.
