The market for new agents/attorneys seems to be slow right now. You shouldn't let that deter you. There is no reason not to acquire the IP credentials even while continue to job hunt in the engineering field. You can study for the patent bar exam over 2-3 months of your spare time. You might want to do that even if you get a new engineering position.
