Re: M.D. eligible to sit for PTO exam?

OK, here are some answers - some folks just like to collect
credentials; some docs consult in biotech; an MD with patent
credentials is from a patent-agent-not-MD in terms
of "employability"; the practice of medicine ain't fun any more
and lots of middle-aged docs are looking for new, fun things to
do; some docs are also inventors; etc etc. Lotsa possible
reasons.
As for me, I left basic research (PhD) because I did not want to
write grant requests for the rest of my life, and went to med
school. I practiced for ~20 yrs and then quit in 2000 because
with HMOs it was not fun any more (and I needed some back surgery
anyway). I had gotten my master in biz a few years earlier and
so make decent income from consulting. I got my real estate
brokers licence cuz I like to take standardized tests and I was
intellectually bored; I have made a few thousand from that,
nothing immense. I became an online law student a coupla years
ago cuz I like the Law, it was challenging, and another
credential is always nice (I am thoroughly enjoying it). When I
decided that I would take IP for my elective next year, I
researched a bit and discovered that with my Biochem bachelors
degree I was eligible for the patent bar test and, having already
a patent and a trademark, I figured this would be a fun
standardized test to prep for and take too.
By the way, if anyone has some prep materials they would like to
loan me, that would be great. You can email me at
teachabit@yahoo.com.
I have no idea why the MD in question here wants to sit for the
test. But, unless he/she has the requisite undergrad prep, as
you say, that MD will do him no good at all in qualifying. C'est
la guerre!
