Re: PhD v. LLM

I think an LLM is only good for tax law. For patent law you would probably be better off working as a patent examiner at the USPTO for $30k per year as opposed to investing the time and money in a IP LLM. If you want to get a PhD that is fine. However, I would not get a PhD soley to bolster patent law credentials. The market is flooded with patent attorneys of all types. Everyone has good credentials, but not everyone can get a job. Right now there are newly minted registered patent attorneys who are still looking for that first job after a year of law school graduation. Beware! In my opinion, I would go for an examiner job at the USPTO or try to get in with a solo patent practicioner or patent botique.
