    Post: Web Site Protection

Posted by Will Harper on 8/30/01

I have a working, yet unpublished, website that is intended
to bring together vendors of similar products. I plan to
send brochures to prospective clients, inviting them to
visit a demo site. If interested I will send them
instructions for submitting images, copy, etc. so that I
can create their unique page. I am considering accepting
professionally done custom pages that meet certain
technical requirements. I'm concerned however that web
designers, if approached by my prospective clients, might
appropriate the concept for their own use, prior to my
being able to develop a portfolio of clients.

Obviously the general concept I've described is not
protectable. But, given that I'm targeting a very specific
class of vendors, selling very specific products, could my
website, in toto, be considered intellectual property
    qualifying for some protections?
