    Hi Cindy:

    What Annie is getting at is simple: you should pay if you are
    living there regardless of who owns the house or who will
    ultimately own the house. Given, however, that you feel that
    you are entitled to an offset for the A\C, send a certified
    letter stating that you are putting all future rent payments
    (less the A\C cost) in an escrow account until you obtain
    futher assurances of who currently owns the leasehold
    residence. I represent lanldords in evictions and collections
    in Michigan, but the principles of your locality should be the
