Post: Landlord Selling the Property

Posted by Danielle on 4/03/09

I live in a basement apartment of a single-family home. My
landlord has just sold the home and told me, via email,
that she is giving me 30-days notice to vacate. The terms
of my lease, which has gone month to month, state that
either party may terminate the lease with 30-days notice.
However, I also know that the DC Code Section 5.01 states
that a tenant must receive 90-days notice in the instance
of a sale. Does the Code section supersede the provisions
of my lease? I do plan to move, but I don't want to be
forced to find a place in 30 days if I should be given
    more time under the law.
