Post: Security Deposit violation - Landlord retaliation

    Posted by seattlegeek on 5/07/11

I rented a house in NJ a while ago on 6 months lease. The
lease term ended and I am on month-to-month now. I just
realized that the NJ law mandates the landlord to provide a
notice about the security deposit. Since the landlord didn't
provide me such a notice, I sent him a notice stating that I
will use the security deposit as next month's rent (June).
He didn't pay any interest for me either. Now, he is trying
to get rid of me. He sent me a notice on 5/7 asking me to
vacate by the end of this month. If not, he threatens to
take legal action and not return the security deposit. I
have been paying the rent on time so far. What are my rights
    now?
