Post: Apartment Building Sold... Forcing to Sign New Lease?

Posted by Joe Doherty on 5/26/06
About 6 months ago our Apartment Building was sold new a new management company. We had moved in 2 years ago and signed a 1 year lease/rental agreement that stated: "The renewal of this lease is not automatic and tenancy beyond the term hereof shall be on a month-to-month basis under the terms and conditions of this lease. The term of this lease may be shortened in the event the premises are sold if the new owner provides Lessee at least 60 days notice of termination of tenancy." So we have been on month-to- month tenancy for almost a year. Now the new company says we have to sign a new lease with them. Do I have to sign a new lease with them? If not what can they do if I don't? I live in Wisconsin by the way if it makes a difference.
