CA: 60 notice while on lease- after 2 yrs no renewal Posted by A on 2/27/07 Could anyone help me with CA rental laws please? I have lived in an apt complex almost 2 years. It's expensive and they are converting from apts to condos for sale. After living here almost 2 years, the management wanted to tear out my front door, saw stucco...while only covering my front door with plastic for 3 plus weeks. I have a daughter 13. Anyway my lease is up April 30 2007. I received a certified letter in the mail last week stating that they wanted me and all my belongings out of my apt on the day my lease ends. They are not renewing my lease. I have never been late with paying my rent the entire time I have been living here. BY law is the management allowed to give me a 60 day notice without a reason to vacate...*WHILE* I am on a lease? I have researched and found so far that this is only allowed on a month to month situation. The complex is only about 25% full and they are currently signing leases for new tenants. Is this legal for them to do to me? Should they have to lease me a new unit at least....HELP..I am very stressed and they have not been nice to me here in a very long time. Thank-you in advance, Dont want to move...
