Post: Security Deposit

Posted by Leslie on 6/07/07
Hi! I just moved out of my house in Mississippi. And I went ahead and deducted my deposit out of my rent, and told the landlord that she could bill me for the carpet cleaning, which was all that was needed. Now she is saying that she is planning on suing me for the whole amount stating that I need to pay for them mowing the lawn (done by her son) and basic cleaning of the unit. I rented from an individual, and the only thing that I signed was a piece of notebook paper saying that I was the tenant and my rent amount. It DOES state that I gave a $200 dollar deposit. I know I should not have deducted the deposit, but she is a very shady lady, and so I wanted to make sure I am not being ripped of. Do I have a leg to stand on in court(with a lawyer) or will I lose?
