Re: DC Bar, Novus & Breyer State University Law School
Posted by Ed on 5/27/08

    Hi Ms Enlightened,

I agree there are some bad schools out there. Especially ones that
misrepresent themselves by saying that you can become a fully licensed
attorney online. Breyer State states that it is a Non-Bar program, meaning
that you cannot sit for the bar exam by taking their courses. Also if I
read your message correctly don't you need a BS to enter a JD program? I'm
sure that is what you meant, not a BS to become an attorney. As for number
two, some people do not want to be a litigating attorney. They take a
non-bar JD to gain legal expertise. This degree lets you do everything
except litigate in a courtroom. Also if you check the books used, they are
often the same books used in Bar JD programs. I agree with you, no degree
should be based solely off of experience. That is ridiculous. I have
heard of some state schools offering some credit from learning portfolios
but a 100% of the degree based from experience is wrong. The exception to
the rule could be an honorary doctorate but everyone knows those are not
real academic degrees anyways. Lastly I do not know about Novus but I
attend Breyer State and it is not a scam. I have had to work hard to
achieve what I have earned so far. I did not hand in a resume and get a
degree. I have had to read plenty of law books, take exams, and hand in
assignments. Just because it is offered online does not make it a scam.
You are open to your opinion but please make it an informed one. I hope
you had a lovely memorial day weekend.

    God Bless

    Ed
