Re: Breyer State University-Diploma Mill

Problem is the standard that Alabama sets for qualifying schools. To qualify a school to give out
a JD with a bad record drags everyone else down.

A school that was formerly in California has recently moved to Alabama. To my knowledge the school
has only had 3 students pass the bar in 9 years of operation under two different names. All of the
faculty go by "Dr.", but there are only three who have/had a license. The rest are all graduates
    of that school. Sad.

I have no doubt that the JD is useful as a learning tool, I have no doubt of that. It is confusing
to the public who equate a JD with the ability to practice law.

This is why the California Bar has requested that schools that offer a non-bar JD change the name
of the degree to something like an Executive JD to differentiate it.

As for me, I am a former DL student and now a practicing attorney. I don't pretend to be an expert
on DL schools, but I would ask the following questions about the school:

    1. How much interaction is there between students and faculty?
    2. How much interaction is there between students?
    3. Are any of the faculty licensed in the state in which the school will turn out practicing (or
    non-practicing) attorneys?
    4. How does the school qualify students and allow students to maintain that qualification?
