Re: California School of Law
Posted by FARLS on 7/11/08

The problem with any of these schools is you don't know how rigorous they
really are until you start to see the stats out the other end. I think it
helps that this school (as I recall) has licensed california attorneys on
staff. Though that is certainly a plus, it's no guarantee of anything.

For instance, Silicon Valley School of Law, a brick and mortar non-ABA school
in San Jose, charges students around $8000/yr and has all licensed attorneys
teaching courses. In spite of that to my knowledge they've never had any
students pass the baby bar in at least 2 years of trying. Part of it I think
is their inability to set expectations and stick to them. A good school will
do some sort of reasonable screening and give students enough feedback to know
whether or not they should take the baby bar and continue.

Schools like Taft, ALU, and C'cord set and maintain those standards. Having
remote lectures is great, but if they admit anyone and let anyone take the
baby bar, then I'd question their motives.
