Post: AR: Physical assault and abuse by an officer in a police stati

Posted by Carmen Nunn on 8/06/08

While lost in a city. I was picked up and taken to the
station. I was not under the impression that I would be
arrested for anything. I asked an officer that was
referred to me if I could call the motel where I was
staying. He became peeved and started to use a lot of
profanity. I asked him why he was cursing me and he got
mad, slammed my head into a desk and twisted my arm until
it was broken at the elbow. I was shifted into a cell
where I sat until they brought me out into the front
station area. I asked an officer if I could have medical
assistence for my arm because it had swollen the size of a
baseball at the elbow and I was in extreme pain. The
officer cursed me, threatend me until another officer
asked him to be quiet. I finally was bonded out, went to
the emergency room and returned home. I have tried to get
legal counsel, a lawyer any kind of legal representation
but to no avail. I finally had to file pro se before the
period to file expired. I know they can throw the case
out before it even gets to court and frankly I am not
prepared to represent myself in court. The judge denied
me legal counsel. What do I do now?
