Post: Reposession Laws

My friend's previous room mate moved out but lent my friend
his car. Unfortunately he has returned to his home country
after the semester and has not returned. We don't have any
way to contact him as he left no other info. We used his
deposit towards rent but wondering what to do with car.

No one has repoed the car yet but concerned about the
legalality of driving it. He is about 3 months behind we
found out. Should we notify police or drop off at nearest
dealer?
