Post: Music Trademark and Domain name

Posted by Rachel on 6/17/01
Hi, I have done a lot of case study but can't come with anything that really answers my problem. I sell sheet music for a living. I have registered numerous generic domain names. I also registered a domain name that includes the last name of a famous composer added to music.com I purposely avoided registering the full name of the composer to avoid any problems. They have their trademarked names registered in their names already. I registered the name to in effect announce that I sell this composers music. I am a licensed dealer for this music. Now the attorneys for this composer's estate are wanting the domain. I am not using the name for any other purpose than to legitimately sell their sanctioned sheets and books. Just wondering if I should just throw in the towel and let it go. Thanks, Rachel
