Over the last 17 months, I have had three hernia
surgerys. First one after the birth of my daughter, then
again during the 5th month of pregnancy with my second, I
had to have surgery cause I could no longer push the
hernia back in, both were around my bellybutton.
This 3rd surgery was 2 weeks after having my son. The
hernia was located on the top of my belly. Right below the
lower rib.
I went to the same surgen that did my last two and he
said it would be like the others and had me in surgery in
2 days.
After surgery while I was in recovery he came in to tell
me that everything went fine and that he did me a favor by
removing some extra skin, and that now I have an outie for
a bellybutton. I remember the nurse saying "lucky you"
The DR. went to my husband and let him know that I was in
recovery and went on telling him that he did me a favor.
My husband told him that I was very paticular about stuff
like that, and my DR told him that he could cut off my
bellybutton if I didnt like it.
When I was finally able to take off my bandages, I was
mortified by what I saw. I have this huge insision going
from the top of my belly where the 3rd hernia was, zig
zagged all the way down to my belly button. Its not even a
straight line, ZIG ZAGGED all the way down. Then my
bellybutton is the worst, It looks like he took it off and
twisted my skin under it and slapped it on top of it. Not
to mention my belly now that he took off the extra skin, I
look like I am sucking in my tummy on the right side, but
the left side isnt.
I called his office that following Monday, I wanted
answers, and he was gone for that week. So I called the
hospital where the surgery was done at, which maybe be a
mistake, but I complained to the lady that took care of
patients that are unhappy. Within 15 min. of talking to
her my DR called me back. He offered to cut off my
bellybutoon free of charge.
What do I need to do? This just happend 2 weeks ago. I
went to my regular DR and he said wait 6 months and then I
needed to see a cosmetic surgen and have it fixed. Pay out
of my pocket, which I do not think I should. Also I just
found out today this surgen has 4 other malpractice suits
out. They were all dismissed. HELP!!!!!! Thank you
