Post: Contract Work

Posted by French attorney on 6/18/07
I am French and I live permanently in the U.S. (my wife is American and I have a green card). I passed the NY bar exam in 2/07 and my application to get admitted is with the Third Division in Albany. Hopefully I will be sworn- in in August. I have been a member of the Paris bar for 16 years. I specialized in international taxation. In addition to my French legal education, I have an LL.M. in Taxation from NYU and I am very familiar with the corporate U.S. tax system. I am also a licensed CPA both in France and in the U.S. Despite my experience and credentials I cannot find a job, either with a law firm or in-house, because I don’t fit any of the categories the headhunters are used to. I am considering working on a contract basis for NY law firm(s) that has/have international tax issues from time to time. Does anybody have similar experience and/or know any networking groups, associations, organizations etc, that I could/should join in order to market myself and find contract work? Any insight will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
