Post: Two Reasons Why You Don't Look Good In Your Videos

Posted by David Zimbalist on 5/19/10
On occasion we have a client who, despite the assurances
from us and others, doesn't like the way they look in their
videos.
Let's be clear what we're talking about: Professional video
done in a manner consistent with what we know works for
lawyers on the web. Of course if your video content is
amateurish, scripted / sales pitch oriented, poorly edited,
and so on, it is likely that yep, you don't look so good.
But in our example all of the technical and marketing
aspects are in line. So why does the occasional person
still feel self-conscious about their performance?
1. They feel that they don't seem "polished." Well, that's
probably good. You don't want to look like a slick sales
pitch in your video. As long as you come across as the real
you, you're good to go. Clients don't want to deal with an
actor.
2. They're unhappy with their physical appearance. So you
need to lose 10 pounds, you look too young, you look too
old... Guess what? That's you. If people don't run away
screaming when they meet you in person they're not going to
be turned off by the real you. It's an advantage.
Bottom line: More and more attorneys use video to capture
and convey their authenticity and trustworthiness. If you
are not one of them, you are losing business to them.
