Post: First time petty theft misdeanor in santa clara county

Hi, I was just charged with a petty theft misdemeanor at Macys for shoplifting $122 worth of items, it was caught on tape and I was very cooperative throughout the whole process. I did admit to taking it to the police officer after the miranda rights [which i'm beginning to think was a bad idea] but would somehow like to have a pretrial diversion or ANYTHING so it will not show up on my record. I am really sorry for what I did, and really don't want it to jeopardize my future career as I am a good student and had plans for my future which I put in jeopardy for something so stupid. From what I know, Santa Clara County does not have a pretrial diversion program, but I was wondering if it did and if it didn't, would I be able to transfer somewhere else? Also, what is the process in trying to get into a pretrial diversion program anyway, and will it be very difficult for me to do it? I am willing to pay for what I did, I just don't want it to affect my future. I'd really appreciate your help, thanks.
