Post: Merchant Company Released Personal Info W/O Permission

Posted by Kelly on 1/29/04
I recently had a business that went down the drain and my
merchant company closed my Visa/Mastercard account because
I "violated" their merchant agreement. I was okay with
that.
Now to make a long story short, the merchant company told
me that the last batch of orders I processed never were
charged to the customers credit card. They were wrong, I
had over 15 customers contact me 2 weeks later because the
charges were on their statements. During the course of
trying to convince the risk management department that the
charges did indeed go through and since I no longer have
an account that they will need to issue the refunds.
After 10 days, they still had not issued the refunds so I
gave my customers the telephone # to the individual who
was dealing with my account. One of my customers told me
upon speaking with the man that he told them I should have
enough money to repay the amount out of my pocket(keep in
mind, I never received the funds from that batch of
orders, because of the hold on my account) and then told
the customer why my merchant account was closed. I thought
this was confidential information. Can you please tell me
if I can do anything about this legally as I have it in
writing from my customer that the merchant company
employee told them specific details about my business
account when all they needed to find out was when a refund
would be issued.
Thank you for your help.
