You may need to look at the CA State statues on how long a
police department may hold any records about you without any
conviction, nor any arrest. Even though they should not have
any information on you without any conviction, or arrest
(depending on state) after some time, most police departments
are allowed to hold some records about people that are of
interest directly or indirectly for a temporary period, but
most are prohibited from releasing this information to anyone
outside the police department. The interest is supposed to be
on possile crimes or possible public safety issues that they
are lawfully allowed to enforce and nothing more such as their
own grudges, political affliations, religion, and so on. To
protect yourself, keep all records of your interactions with
the police of who, when, where, what, and how, and keep a
complete set outside of your house with a trusted friend or
relative. If something does come up where they or a similiar
agency is doing something to harass you or they are not
obeying the state laws, you have a clear way to file a law
suit and desribe your situation to a court.

Overall, do not let it get to you, but let them make mistakes,
which can make your legal situaiton more actionable in the eys
of the law, and keep yourself protected by documentation,
recordings, witnesses, and any honest supporters you can find.
In dealing with the goverments you have more protection than
dealing with some employers. You are your best defense even
better than a lawyer since you have intimate knowledge of what
has occured, and know how the situation personally effects
you, so it is good if you can do some reseach on the internet,
in book stores, and at libraries on your specific circumstance
and the specific local laws that apply.

Rember the golden rule (somewhat elaborated) :
Do not speak to any government person without one or more
witnesses, or without an attorney; and even then you may
decide you do not wish to talk. There is not any law that
compels you to speak unless it is ordered by a duly appointed
court and/or judge.

In your case there is likely federal laws and federaly
agencies, or national socities about mental health issues that
may help shed light on your protections. You have the right
to be different and left alone, whether anyone thinks you are
crazy or not. Unless they are a room full of mental health
workers their opinion of crazy can mean nothing in court as
long as you assert that basic fact. Keep in mind that
smetimes lawyers forget to really fight on principles and
instead try to smooth things over with the local majority,or
cite past court cases, which is alright in some situations.
Invidiual rights and individual behavior are sometimes best
fought on principles of the law, constitution and ethics.
