I was recently helping my daughter pack up some belongings
of her soon to be ex-husband. Along with his personal
things was a file pertaining to a Medicare Appeal. He used
to bring home files from his previous employer where he was
a paramedic. This file contains medical information as well
as SS# and DOB. When I called the Department of Human
Services in Austin,Tx, they suggested that the file be
returned to his old company,which is no longer in business.
I called the Medicare office that was handling the
complaint and someone there suggested I shred the documents
even though she acknowledged that he was not supposed to
bring them home. Does anyone really care about Hippa?
