Post: Neighbor harassment

We need help. We moved to a small NW Connecticut town in March of 07. We searched for a home and property large enough so that we could run a quite business from our home. We found the perfect home but it needed a outbuilding to house some of our inventory. We presented the town Building and Zoning with the plans for a NE Barn. The department approved and said that what we intended to use it for was permisable. From the very beginning, our neighbor took the liberty to come on to our property, take measurements, call the Building and Zoning department. This I overlooked. He then called up the Assecor to check things, which I overlooked as inevitable. We then had a heated confrontation as I trimmed 9 pine branches that are overhanging my property line to the point that they were reaching the ground for safety. I went to the police with the matter, they said that they would come out to talk to him if I wanted, I said no but the documented the visit. Now all hell is breaking loose. He has know created a packet stating all his greivences as he believes the building should not be allowed. He believes we should not be able to use it to house some of my inventory. He has mailed this to numerous city officials. We now have to go before the town at a special hearing to see if we can get a special permit. I wish the town would have mentioned this. To make matters worse, he has personally slipped these packets along with the meeting date and his cover-letter basically stating that we need to be stopped and ran out of town into all the neighbor's mailboxes down our 3 mile street and even the next street down the hill . Some of the information is false. Now we are getting phone calls from people on the street who are either irate that someone slipped this into the mailbox without reference to who sent it and without postage, or they are calling us and calling us unscrupulous without event knowing what we do. This neighbor constantly takes photos, stares out his window to the point that we are nervous about even going outside. To make this worse, my wife has been so upset by the actions of this man that she is now depressed and is having to take medication. This guy is going to be our ruin. We put every thing we had into making this move. We paid every permit, asked every department we could, and did this. In the face of loosing everything because of a hateful neighbor, what do I do? Thanks
