Post: Slander in the workplacePosted by Kate on 8/16/08
I worked for a company and my boss asked me into her
office one day. She told me the company wasnt happy with
my work and was going to replace me. I submitted a letter
of resignation the following day,and was told I could tell
potential employers I quit. A month after countless job
interviews, a VP of a company said he was told I was fired
and wasnt a good fit for the job. I was out of work for 6
months and finally forced to take a position at an 8K/year
cut in pay. During the time out of work I applied and
found eligible for unemployment. Now, my previous employer
has appealed and found in favor based on the mere fact
that I resigned and that my firing "wasnt imminent"...yet
they told a major VP elsewhere otherwise. I am now
expected to pay back the $4200 I was awarded from
unemployment because they are insisting I quit.
