    I state the obvious but don't mean it to sound like a brush
    off. You need to consult an attorney in your jurisdiction.
    The situation you have described is understandable and clear,
    however, an action for slander or other related tort will
    depend first on your state's laws and second very specific
    facts that you should not discuss on a public chat board such
    as this. Call a few attorneys in your town who specialize in
    personal injury or tort law. They will likely talk to you
    for a half hour for no charge and give you a sense of whether
    you have a viable case. Remember, even if you have a case it
    may be much more expensive to pursue that any judgment amount
    you could possibly be awarded. You need to speak directly
    and confidentially to an attorney to make a reasonable
    decision about what you want to do.
