Post: Kids harrassing my wife and I

    Posted by Marty on 6/12/06

My wife bought a new house 6 years in a small town. 2
years after we moved in, a few kids began ringing our
doorbell. This went on for about 8 months, until I waited
outside and caught them. This is the 3rd time I have
caught the same kids. I called the police and we went to
court. The kids were found guilty and received a $100 fine
and community service and a restraining order. We now have
cameras pointed at our front door and driveway. The kids
are now egging our house and my truck. I caught one of the
same kids and called the police. The kid’s mom said that
she had taken her son to his friend’s house and he could
not have thrown eggs at our house. This same kid has
continued to harass me even when I'm driving home. I did
call the police on one occasion and waited for the police
to respond. After 30 minutes, I called the police back and
they told me that an officer passed by and did not see me.
I had also given my cell #, so the police could call me
when they were close, which they didn't do. This kid and
his mother went down to the police station and filed a
report claiming that I tried to hit this kid with my truck
and made racial slurs. The police came to my house later
that night and issued me a summons for harassment. When
the police issued the summons, they stated that they had a
witness who had never met this kid before and stated that
I harassed this young man. When I went to court, I met
with the city attorney who advised me that the witness was
the kid’s mother. I told the city attorney what the
officers told me and I also informed that I was the one
who was harassed and I requested that he dismiss the case.
The city attorney did dismiss the case. I was later served
with a temporary restraining order by the county. When I
went to court, the city attorney came along with me as a
witness. The kid’s mother and father were both there and
stated that I had been harassing their son. I asked if
they witnessed this and they both said, "NO". This proves
that the mother lied when she filed charges against me
before. The kid’s father threatened me twice while he was
testifying and each time the judge warned him. The outcome
of the trial was that restraining orders were issued
against both the kid and me. The father did not receive a
restraining order, which he should have. Since the
restraining orders have been issued, our house has been
egged twice. On one occasion, I witnessed a car drop 2
kids off in front of my neighbor’s house. By the time I
want out the back door, they had already thrown an egg at
my window and ran through a field next to my house. I ran
down to the end of our block and witnessed the 2 kids get
into a car that was in front of the kid’s house who claims
that I harass him. When I called the police, they came to
my house and took a report. I described the car and told
them where it was parked when they drove off. The police
never contacted me back. My wife and I will be moving in
the next few months, but I was wondering if you could give
me some advice until we move? When the kids throw the
eggs, they have their faces covered, so the camera can't
record their face. If I catch the kids before we move, can
I file a civil suit against them for harassment? This
time, I will make sure I keep the kids there until the
police arrive. BY teh way, my house is the last house on
my block next to a field. Two of the kids I caught
harassing me live on teh other side of town and teh one
kid who continues to harass me, lives on the on the next
    street over.
