I have a 1998 Toyota Sienna van with 2 rear sliding doors. If
passengers open the door from the inside, the door will then
often fail to open after it is closed. So the driver or front
passenger has to get out to open these rear doors to prevent
the doors from locking up. This problem will go away after
some indeterminate time sitting without being used from the
inside.
My mechanic couldn't fix it, but lubricated the sliding door
and lock mechanism. The problem went away for a short time,
but returned.
I also consider this a safety issue and wonder why the NHTSA
has not addressed it in a recall. Is there any recourse here?
