I would suggest filing a *formal petition* with the NHTSA
imploring it to hope a formal safety-defects investigation into
this matter. You are far from alone! Imagine what might
happen in an accident where the Toyota vehicle caught fire.
With the engine oil sludge problem, it isn't a far-fetched
possibility.
When you formally petition the NHTSA to open such an
investigation, the agency has a set amount of time to
respond...no more than 90 days.
The NHTSA would be wise to follow through in this matter. It
is one thing to overlook the engine oil sludge problem just
because Toyota told it that the CSP (Customer Support Program)
would provide customer relief, but it is quite another to
overlook a serious door defect that would render escape from
the vehicle impossible in the event of an accident.
Please keep us posted on what you learn from the NHTSA. Make
this agency go to bat for vehicle owner safety. Don't let
Toyota "work a deal" with it so that public exposure is kept to
a minimum.
