Re: Sticking Sliding Doors in the Toyota Sienna
Posted by Debbie on 9/05/07

I am brand new to this conversation but just thought I would give an objective
opinion about my personal Toyota vehicle.

After opting for a Toyota instead of a Honda back in 2003, when I bought my 2000
Sienna, I have had nothing but problems with it. I bought if from the dealer as
    a "Certified Vehicle".

    1. We have a mysterious "oil problem" that even our longtime mechanic can't
figure out. The oil just disappears.

    2. Also, all four of the door handles on my van are broken. I just got off the
phone with the dealer to see about fixing them because now that all four of them
are broken, only one of them allows us to even get in the van, and then we have to
climb in and open all the other doors from the inside. A really annoying side
effect when you are hauling around 4 kids all the time. By the way, it's about
$300 each to fix them. Don't know what I'm going to do yet. It's hardly worth
putting $1200 into my 6 year old van. The one door handle we can still open the
van with is literally in pieces. We've just managed to keep it together because
it's the driver's door handle and I have banned anyone from opening it but me for
fear that it will just fall apart.

    3. My sending unit went out while the van was still under warranty, a very
unusual problem. Even though the dealer admitted it was an unusual problem and
shouldn't have happened, they wouldn't cover it under the warranty.

    4. Various small things have broken, like the handle that adjusts the back of one
of the back bucket seats, has broken. All the cup holders are very flimsy and
several of them have broken. The plastic back of one of the seats just
mysteriously fell off. You can't plug certain things into the lighter sockets or
they will short and blow fuses, and multiple other problems. All of these
problems have occured before the van hit 100,000 miles. The gas mileage is
horrible. I'm lucky to get 15 miles to the gallon. Not even close to their
claims. Also, ever since my first flat tire, the out of balance light on my dash
has never gone back off. I've had new tires twice since then and it seems nothing
will keep the darn thing in balance. The dealer basically says, oh well, it's
just a light. I wouldn't worry about it. Also, the remote key entry never
worked. It hasn't worked since I got it.

All I have to say is that I will never buy another Toyota vehicle. For a brand
that has been supposedly one of the most reliable and best built vehicles made, I
have been extremely disappointed. I don't feel the least bit sorry for or
concerned about the dealer. If others have had the problems I've had and can get
the dealer to cover some of their expenses, more power to them. I feel that I
paid top dollar for a very poor performing vehicle and will just stick with Honda
from now on. I've owned many Hondas over the years and never had any of these
    problems.
