Yes, yes. We bought a 2002 Sienna Van, new from our dealer
in July of 2001. Just this past week, on July 20, 2008 I
came to an intersection after driving on a rural highway. I
came to a stop and the cd player spit out a cd,the radio
blinked off and on, and the dashboards blinked then
everything went dead and the engine cut off. I was alone in
the vehicle (on my way to pick up children) and a passerby
stopped to help my get the van to the side of the road. He
asked me to open the hood, and when I did there were flames
shooting up from behind the battery area. We called 911 and
tried to smother the flames with a towel. However it became
obvious that the flames would not go out and we had to move
as the fire and heat became unbearable. Within 5 minutes
the engine and cab were engulfed in flames. Everything was
a complete loss. This van was maintained according to
Toyota's suggestions and never experienced any mechanical
problems. There was absolutely no indication that there
would be a fire or any other problem. Is this common?
