In 2000 I had it put in. It did work good for my pain. However, between 2000 and 2005 I had 8 surgery's to fix leads that had shifted and battery replacement. I cant even count how many trips to the Doc. for programming problems. When I talk about leads shifting, you need to know Tabby that the paddle with the leads is'nt attatched to anything. Scar tissue buildng around it is what "anchors it". Even with the scar tissue built up around it, all it takes is the wrong move, twist, step or lifting something. My final blow happened in 2005. I had to have full replacement of everything. All I did was stretch while sitting at my pc. A new one was placed in me. Because the Doc. did'nt place it right 3 days later I was in surgery again. One month later all of a sudden the stimulation was going through my whole body. I mean in my brain, tongue, thumbs, everywhere. It was so aweful,I could,nt turn it off. It took 8 days for the Doc. and the company to believe me. On the 8th day I finally went to the ER. In the x- ray it showed no movement but suffering from complete exhaution I fell asleep during the x-ray and they could'nt wake me up, so they admitted. The implant was removed. My surgeon said that it had to be the implant because nothing moved. I was given the implant by my surgeon. Med-Tronics was not happy with that. I sought legal help. Because he could'nt find any other case like mine, he could'nt risk filing the lawsuit. However he found so many very disturbing other cases. Tabby, my advice is to really think about this clearly. Your husband is going to have them put an electrial device in his body. Mine malfunction and I have permanent nerve damage. Also remember that they have been putting these implants in I think for about 10 years. My lawyer told that if this had happened 10 years from now,we would have a case. Not every implant perfect. How many people do you know that bought a new car and something electrical went wrong with it!!! Tabby, if I had it to do all over again,I would not have had it done. Also, about the battery. I was a few months short of having the new rechargable battery put in. I remember my Med- Tronics rep telling my about how this was going to be better than the ANS rechargable battery. ANS's battery was burning people internally. The exact same thing is happening to people with Med-Tronics new battery, go figure.. When you see Your Med-tronic rep ask him if he can say you'll never have these problems, and give them the bird for me for not warning me about all these possabilities. Good luck, Janis
