Post: titanium screws broken

Posted by Carol Sloan on 10/05/09

First I was hit by an airbag in a wreck in 2007. I had a
crushed right arm and three broken vertebrae. I had arm
surgery and lumbar-thoracic surgery. A device was placed
in my back with four titanium screws. I discovered that
the two top screws holding the device had broken. On
9/14/09, a surgeon had to remove the device and left the
two broken screws inside my vertebra. We contacted the
hospital and they said they would only release the device
and broken screws with the doctors okay and referred us to
risk management and would only release it by a letter from
an attorney. We were under the impression that titanium
screws were not supposed to break. Anyway, the pathology
department at the hospital said that they are holding the
    device. Anyone have any advice?
