Post: Stimulator battery pack change leads to infection

    Posted by Claire on 4/06/10

4 weeks ago, I had a routine battery pack change for my ASN
stimulator. I say routine because this is my 2nd battery
change, the first went without an issue.

This time the wound completely broke down 2 weeks after the
unit was changed out. I was back into the OR to have it
cleaned out and stapled up. I am on Cipro now but the wound
site is still not healing properly.

I had a forominotomy scheduled today that had to be
cancelled because the surgeon would not operate on me with
an infection. A policy I certainly understand. What I'm
worried about, is losing the battery pack and therefore the
stimulator. I do get relief from my stimulator and rely on
it as part of my pain management.

What are the chances that this will heal itself? The unit
actually feels like it is trying to be ejected from my
body. Has anyone else faced these same issues?

    Thanks
