I TOOK PREDNISONE FOR ARTERIAL ARTIRITIS AND WENT FOR
BLOOD WORK EVERY WEEK. THE SED-RATE WENT UP EACH WEEK AND
HE RAISED THE DOSAGE. I STARTED AT 130 LBS. FOUR MONTHS
LATER I WEIGHED OVER 300 LBS AND NEEDED TO RENT A
WHEELCHAIR TO GET INTO HIS OFFICE AND TO SHOP. MY HUSBAND
HAD TO PUSH THE CHAIR BECAUSE I COULD NOT. MY CHILDREN
GOT SO CONCERNED OVER WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO ME THEY CALLED
MY PRIMARY DR. TO ASK HIM TO REFER ME TO SHANDS TEACHING
HOSPITAL IN GAINESVILLE, FL. THEN THEY CALLED THE
NEUROLOGIST TO ASK HIM TO DO THE SAME. THEY BOTH SENT MY
FILES UP THERE BUT THE NEUROLOGIST NEVER SENT ANY OF THE
    LAB WORK.
I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SEE THE CHIEF NEUROLOGIST IN
SHANDS. HE KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO ME. HE
SAID "YOU HAVE BEEN OVERDOSED ON PREDNISONE". WHEN HE
READ MY FILE HE CONFIRMED IT AND SAID THAT IN ALL THE
YEARS HE HAD PRACTICED HE NEVER GAVE ANYONE 80MGS. HE
CALLED THE NEUROLOGIST I HAD BEEN SEEING AND TOLD HIM TO
GET ME OFF ASAP. I WENT HOME AND BACK TO HIM 1 TIME TO
GET THE SCHEDUALE TO GET OFF THE PREDNISONE AND NEVER WENT
    BACK.
I GOT OFF THE MED IN MARCH OF 2000. SO FOR 1 YEAR I WAS
TAKING IT. I ORIGINALLY SAW THE DR FOR THE 1ST TIME IN
    APRIL OF 1999.
IN 2002 I STARTED GETTING PAIN IN WHAT I THOUGHT WAS FROM
MY BACK, I WENT TO MY NEW PRIMARY DR. AND HE ASKED WHY I
WAS LIMPING AND I SAID, "MY BACK HURTS" HE TOOK ME BACK
INTO AN EXAM ROOM AND LIFTED MY RIGHT LEG. THE PAIN WAS
SO BAD I SCREAMED. HE IMMEDIATELY SENT ME TO AN
ORTHEPEDIC DR. MY HIP WAS DETERIORATED AND HAD TO BE
REPLACED. A SHORT TIME LATER MY RIGHT SHOULDER HAD TO BE
REPLACED. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I HAVE HAD BOTH
SHOULDERS, BOTH HIPS MY LEFT KNEE AND LEFT ELBOW REPLACED
ALL FROM PREDNISONE. THE ELBOW WAS OPERATED ON 3 TIMES,
    AND IT STILL ISN'T RIGHT.
WHEN I CALLED AN ATTORNEY, I WAS TOLD IT WAS OVER THE
STATUE OF LIMITATIONS, WHICH IN FLORIDA IS 2 YEARS, AND I
COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO HIM. I WROTE TO THE AMA AND NEVER
HEARD FROM THEM. THAT WAS MY EXPERIENCE WITH PREDNISONE
AND I WOULD LOVE TO GET INTO A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT.
