I was prescribed Prednisone for intercostal (rib) muscle pain that was so bad I couldn't sleep on that side. I was given an injection and a three-day supply which almost immediately got rid of the pain but the pain came back within a few days so I went to a clinic and the doctor there gave me a 40 day supply which is when the trouble began and it's still going on. I couldn't stop eating, I had almost constant cramps in my feet and calves, I gained a lot of weight and got the swelled face and truncal bloating. When I tapered off of it with my husband's help, I began to have hallucinations and other scary side effects. Within two weeks of taking the last pill, the facial swelling went away but I am still bloated in my abdomen, have stomach pain, blurry vision and weight gain that showed up in places I never had it, ever, like giving me a double chin. Neither doctor gave me any warning, diet or exercise suggestions, nothing at all. When my feet and hands began to turn red, white and then purple... and when i couldn't walk because of foot pain the depression really kicked in. No competent doctor would prescribe Prednisone for such a comparative minor problem as a torn muscle, and no competent doctor would give out so many pills, and no competent doctor would give no warnings, pros and cons, or any other kind of help. I feel hatred toward the second doctor in particular who put me on a 40 day supply without even suggesting a safer alternative. I have fibromyalgia and Raynaud's; also I am Bipolar, so to repeat: no competent doctor would have poisoned me and left me in the dark and suffering as the second doctor did--or even the first because if he had warned me or just filled me in on side effects and medications or diseases not to mix, I never would have accepted the second doctor's prescription.
