I have been on prednisone for over 40 years. I was given prednisone to combat Rheumatiod Arthritis. However, my entire skeletal frame is now porous, thin to the point where if I have a fall, I break my bones/a bone. I can't walk without assistance and I am bent over all the time. I wanted to get off prednisone but my body won't respond to anything else and bodily swelling and other problems ensue when prednisone is withdrawn. Can anything be done about this? No one told me prednisone would deterioriate my body's skeletan. My daughter was given prednisone as a child to combat an exzcema skin condition. She now has spondyalosis, deterioation of the bones in her spine.
